Intermediate I Italian Class

The primary goal of this course is to immerse you in the language. We use as much Italian as possible during our lessons to help you rapidly develop your listening comprehension and speaking confidence. To ensure clarity, grammar is explained in both English and Italian, supported by practical examples, and immediately put into practice through student-led exercises.

Our Approach to Progression

Students are highly encouraged to remain in the Intermediate I level until they can comfortably navigate an entire lesson exclusively in Italian. Because of this, many students choose to take this course multiple times.

Don't worry about repetition! To keep the experience fresh and engaging, our curriculum rotates throughout the year. This ensures that returning students always encounter new materials and topics, allowing you to consolidate your skills and progressively build your fluency without repeating the exact same class.

Grammar Syllabus

This course introduces new grammatical structures while offering extensive revision of core concepts. We cover the following topics on a rotating basis:

  • L'Imperfetto (e.g., andavo – I was going / I used to go)
  • Reflexive Verbs (e.g., mi lavo, mi sono lavato/a)
  • The Future Tense (e.g., andrò – I will go)
  • The Present Conditional (e.g., andrei – I would go)
  • The Impersonal Form (e.g., si mangia – one eats / we eat)
  • Comparatives (e.g., Maria è più alta di Luca – Maria is taller than Luca)

Conversation & Practical Application

To bring the grammar to life, our conversation-focused sessions are highly interactive.

During these sessions, students are invited to share a few personal photos—whether from a recent holiday, a dinner, or a favorite hobby—to describe to the class and use as a springboard for group Q&As.

Our conversational themes include:

  • Summer holidays and travel
  • Daily routines (narrated across past, present, and future tenses)
  • Current affairs and modern life
