2 novembre, il Giorno dei Morti (the day of the dead).
A solemn Catholic holiday honoring the deceased and praying for their souls. It's a national public holiday in Italy, blending religious remembrance with family traditions.
It is a tradition, today, to bring flowers to the graves of the deceased. According to Italian tradition, the flower of the dead is the chrysanthemum (crisantemo). The choice stems from the fact that these flowers bloom during this period.
Cemeteries have extended opening hours on November 2 and dedicated initiatives.
Crisantemo
The name means "golden flower." It was already cultivated in China five centuries before Christ, while in Europe it spread at the end of the 1700s in France, Italy, and England. In Japan, it is the national flower and is used for weddings. In many countries, it is a symbol of life, strength of spirit, and peace.
